Working Together
The National Charity League (NCL) is a group of mothers and daughters working together to support different charities in their community. The Emerald City Chapter of NCL chose VA Puget Sound Fisher House. Writes one of the young women involved: "We help by bringing a nice home-made meal and try to brighten up the guests' day. We love to come and talk to the people staying here about their lives. Being at Fisher House expands our horizons and gives mothers and daughters a chance to bond while being in service to others. We love coming to the Fisher House".
And the guests of Fisher House love the Emerald City NCL!
Giving Back
Irene Breshears stayed at Fisher House in 2009. She and husband Michael live in Canby, Oregon and are active with the Canby-Aurora VFW, Post 6057. Michael still has occasion to come to VA Puget Sound Health Care System for appointments; when he does, Irene comes along. Instead of waiting around in the hospital, she comes to Fisher House and cooks a meal for the guest. "I know how much it helps to come home to a nice, hot meal," Irene says. "It is fun for me to do a little something for the families in Fisher House, just like others did for me when I was here".
We are grateful that Irene shares her generous heart, infectious spirit and culinary skills with the families of Fisher House.

Irene stirs up a pot of her delicious Cowboy Beans.
The Kramer Family
The Kramer family enjoys providing a meal on a quarterly basis for the Puget Sound Fisher House.
"Visiting with the families that stay at the Fisher House has been a blessing to our family. As staunch supporters of the military, and with veterans in our family as well, we enjoy this opportunity to give back. Cooking for these heroes who have sacrificed so much is the very least that we can do".
Tun Tavern Grub Club
Taking their moniker from the site of the first Marine Corps recruitment drive, this wonderful group of women come once a month to prepare dinner for Fisher House families.
They all have ties to the Marine Corps, and many have loved ones currently serving. True to the Marine motto - Semper fideles - the Grub Club has been always faithful for over two years. Each themed meal is an event with decorations and entertainments to match the menu. The Grub Club members have become part of the extended Fisher House family and we are so grateful for their delicious care for the Fisher House families.

Members of the Grub Club pose with a bountiful Fiesta spread.

"No two days of volunteering at the Fisher House are ever the same! I do whatever needs to be done to help keep the house running smoothly; my projects vary greatly, from baking treats for the guests, to helping in the garden, to sorting paperwork, to visiting the hospital. Fisher House is a very supportive community full of love and I always leave happier than when I arrived. I am so glad to be a part of Fisher House and am excited to see it continue to grow".

"Volunteering at Fisher House is a way for me to give back in some small way for the many benefits my family and I have received during my 22 years of naval service. Helping with little things around the house allows the staff to concentrate on the important tasks that need to be done to provide the quality service that Veterans and their families deserve".
