The Project Begins
The Healing Garden was installed at the east end of the Fisher House, just beyond the existing herb and vegetable garden. The initial phase involved a lot of heavy labor to create the hardscape: removing sod, moving soil, leveling ground, creating paths and construction of privacy screens and decking for the open-air pavilion.

Landscape architecture involves construction as well as planting.

This deck is the foundation for an open air pavilion.

Students work on a retaining wall.

Pathways through the garden are ADA compliant.
A Garden is Born
As the final days of the project approached, students began installing all the plant material that wouldl make the garden bloom. Though some of the plantings will not attain maturity for several years, It is already possible to imagine how this beautiful garden will benefit Fisher House families, providing them with privacy, solace and creating a natural oasis in the midst of the city.

Benches and gliders throughout the garden create seating areas.

Metal planter boxes sit along the pathways...

and along the sides of a privacy fence.

Trees and plantings fill the garden. In the background you can see the "wind sculpture".
