We welcome the interest of community members who wish to enhance the program of the VA Puget Sound Fisher House by sharing their talents and skills with our guests.
Some of the services that would be valued by our guests include:
Baking. We would love to have an individual or group make a monthly or weekly commitment to come bake for Fisher House guests.
Classes (knitting, cooking, scrap booking, gardening…any subject about which you are knowledgeable and wish to share your expertise)
Hair cuts and styling
Manicures and pedicures
Arranging outings for guests (lunch or dinner out, trips to museum, the movies or local attractions). Many of our guests are here for extended stays and not from the immediate area. Excursions to see local sights offer guests a welcome change of pace.
We are always interested in having people come in to cook meals or bake for our families. This may mean dropping off the food or coming into the house to prepare a meal and spend time with the families. We are happy to discuss an arrangement that works best for you and your service group.
VA Puget Sound Fisher House is also an excellent place for students to earn service hours. Students have come in to cook for families or developed service projects around a specific need. (One young man, for example, collected DVDs for our movie library).
We encourage you to consider how you can contribute and the time commitment you are able to make to the VA Puget Sound Fisher House, and then call us at
(206) 277-3950.
