February 7, Breakfast with Fisher House Ambassadors

It's always a pleasure to welcome Audrey Fisher, Nancy Edelman and Jim Weiskopf, Trustees from the Fisher House Foundation.   This year we were particularly pleased to introduce them to our friends from KISW radio and Elysian Brewing.   We were delighted to be able to present Certificates of Appreciation to the hosts of "The Mens Room" and to Joe from Elysian Brewing for their continued support of VA Puget Sound Fisher House and the Fisher House at Joint Base Lewis McChord.

Snow Days!

With the January snows we were reminded of life's simple pleasures as mom Crystal taught her daughter Carly to catch snowflakes on her tongue.

January 16,  Martin Luther King Day

United Way sponsors a Day of Caring in honor of Dr. King, partnering groups and individuals with organizations in need of volunteer support.   This year we were honored to have volunteers from Repair the World plan a dinner for the families.   Then we learned that Senator Patty Murray wanted to help as well.  As chair of the Senate committee on Veterans Affairs Senator Murray has long been a champion of Veterans.  She is also a big fan of the Fisher House program.  While she attended our groundbreaking in 2007 the Senator had never been inside this Fisher House so we were very excited to have her tour and spend time with our families.

It was a wonderful dinner and we are grateful to the folks from Repair the World, the Senator, her husband Bob and her staffers for their generous gift of time and culinary talent on behalf of our families.
